My first review!
Featured on WatchMojo: 10 Best TV Shows to Hide in 2023 (2023). I read the Hughes trilogy many years ago and really enjoyed the books. When I happened to be browsing IMDB and found SILO, it immediately piqued my interest. I see mixed reviews, and I can relate to some of them, here’s a sneak peek at the first season.
First of all, I love dystopian literature!
The dystopian genre offers a unique psychological perspective on human nature in hypothetical scenarios. My attachment to the trilogy was strengthened because Hughes managed to develop Orwellian ideas in a hypothetical way that was relevant to the modern world. Depicting the development of the human psyche in dystopian scenarios is a difficult task. I think Hughes did a wonderful job, and SILO captures most of these aspects in a refreshing way.
The acting is phenomenal for the central characters
It’s not an adaptation in the sense that it follows a story. It’s based on the books, but of course it has to adapt to the audience in a rapidly changing world. Despite that, the series manages to convey the atmosphere of a society living in a bunker. Unlike the superficial storytelling of other shows, “SILO” has a wonderful combination of character development and atmospheric focus.
Give it a try!
My only problem with this show is the lack of atmospheric development. They spend a lot of screen time chasing and capturing Juliet. They lack atmospheric development of the silo as a society. Of course, the show’s audience has to like it.
